Image by Michael Kohn via Flickr… ist tatsächlich an mir vorbei gegangen – seit kurzem gibt es eine public beta von nd 8.5. die beta ist damit auch für mich etwas neues: es ist die erste, die ich nicht begeistert installieren und testen werde; obwohl – es gäbe ein feature, welches spannend klingt: “directory independence”. mit dem feature soll es möglich sein, die user nicht mehr im domino directory, sondern im active directory anzulegen und zu pflegen.
wie funktioniert das dann mit der id? hat man damit automatisch single sign on? kann man ein bestehendes system auf ad umstellen? wie sieht die dafür notwendige schema-erweiterung aus? was passiert mit applikationen, die z.b. per lookup auf die names zugreifen? oder gibt es hier dann einen art sync? mir würden hier noch weit mehr fragen einfallen; doch halt: dieses feature, zusammen mit anderen bejubelten, kommt sowieso erst viel später. es hat sich irgendwie nichts geändert

richtig gelesen – es gibt eine erste beta des 8.5er clients für den mac (und das sogar schon länger, ich habs einfach bisher übersehen) – hier gehts direkt zum download! für den download muss man sich natürlich mit der ibm id anmelden; ohne anmeldung kann man sich zumindest schon mal die release notes durchlesen.

ibm nimmt teile von openoffice (in der mittlerweile alten version 1.5), ändert ein wenig, nennt das ganze lotus symphony und macht dann solche werbung:

nachdem ich gerade versuche, auf meinem notebook linux (zuerst opensuse, nun ubuntu) zu verwenden, habe ich mir auch symphony näher angesehen. einen vorteil könnte man darin sehen, dass symphony natürlich ebenfalls odf als dateiformat verwendet; allerdings stimmt das nicht zu 100% – ich konnte nicht alle dokumente fehlerfrei wieder öffnen. was vor allem schrecklich ist, ist die performance: die neuen features sind mittels java realisiert, und java ist halt nicht das schnellste.

nun, aber wer verwendet es? meiner meinung nach kommen dafür nur hardcore ibm’ler in betracht, wie z.b. mein arbeitskollege christian alle anderen verwenden entweder ms office oder eben openoffice (oder noch besser: staroffice)

fazit: das argument der werbung stimmt. nur wenn schon, dann bitte openoffice und nicht symphony.

You notice an increase in the time it takes to open a form containing several subforms, when some of these subforms load script libraries. For example, if a from has 7 computed subforms, it might take one second to open. A form with 10 computed subforms might take 15 seconds to open.

lösung gibt es zwar noch keine, aber einen coolen workaround:

It was found that adding the LotusScript “Print” statement to the ‘Initialize’ event of each of the subforms resulted in a return to normal performance levels.

bleibt nur die frage: wie kommt man darauf ??

bin eben dabei eine frische notes 8 installation zu konfigurieren – dabei frage ich mich, warum es alle settings zumindest doppelt gibt??

und wie bitte bekomme ich meine guten alten workspace wieder?
