Bandwidth Analysis Tool for monitoring ICA & RDP traffic patterns

It’s free and it monitors NT4 Terminal Server and Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services Installed
Display network usage for any Terminal Connected to any Thin Client Server over RDP or ICA, TCP/IP or IPX
Information displayed includes Bytes transferred per second, timeout errors, %age CPU used by the connection, memory used etc.
Individual connections can be combined to display a summary of network usage, useful if you need to check traffic over a 64k or 128k line.

neu im windows server 2003 server sp1 ist der security configuration wizard – dessen aufgabe ist es – abhängig von der server rolle – die minimal notwendige funktionalität zu ermitteln und anhand dessen nicht benötigte funktionalitäten zu deaktivieren; somit wird die angriffsfläche so weit als möglich reduziert.

die scw documentation hilft beim einsatz, ausbau und bei der fehlersuche.

Remote Desktop Connections remote aktivieren

wie bereits einmal erwähnt kann man die remote desktop connections über die registry oder über ein script aktivieren – es geht aber noch einfacher / konfortabler mittels einem freeware tool:

Have you ever forgot to start the “Remote Desktop” option in Windows XP or in Windows 2003 server after installation? To resolve this issue you had to interactively login to the new windows you just installed, and mark the “Remote Desktop” checkbox in the computer properties…

With StartRDP you can remotely configure the Remote Desktop to accept RDP connections.

Windows Server 2003 R2

seit kurzem gibt es den preview von windows server 2003 r2 zum download für jeden – diese version ist für 180 tage funktionsfähig (die 64 bit version 360 tage). vergleichbar ist die r2 in etwa mit der windows 98 second edition – also verbesserungen, aber kein komplett neues betriebssystem.

windows server 2003 r2 benötigt zum installieren darunter ein windows 2003 mit sp1.

microsoft hat ein neues whitepaper über die neuerungen im windows 2003 sp1 herausgegeben – z.b. gibts erweiterungen beim distributed file system (dfs), beim domain controller diagnostic tool (dcdiag), oder natürlich die access-based enumeration….

nicht vergessen: mit dem sp1 ist auch das neue adminpack fällig!

dass ein doppelter rechtsklick sofern der notes client vernünftig konfiguriert ist das aktive fenster schließt dürfte kein großes geheimnis sein – in wahrheit ist dies eine funktionalität die einfach, aber absolut genial und praktisch ist; leider eben nur innerhalb des notes clients.

doch es gibt abhilfe – mit dem tool ICODEX ARC funktioniert dies auch ausserhalb des notes clients!
