IBM and Avaya have struck an agreement to integrate Avaya’s VoIP technology with IBM’s enterprise email, Web conferencing and instant messaging offerigns Lotus Notes and Domino.

The two say the main outcome will be to enable “click-to-call” capabilities in email and instant messaging products across Lotus Notes, Domino and IBM Lotus Sametime.

By selecting multiple names, users will be able to “click-to-conference”.

IBM will also integrate audio conferencing provided by Avaya Meeting Exchange with Lotus’ Web conferencing solutions, giving Web conference participants a visual indication of who is speaking and the ability to dial out to new participants, mute lines and control volume, among other capabilities.

glaubt man der letzten studie von der radicati group namens “IBM Lotus Messaging Software, Market Analysis, 2005-2009”, so wird der marktanteil von momentan 23% (88.3 millionen mailboxen) auf 13% (68 millionen mailboxen) schrumpfen.
weiters verstehen 25% der kunden die aktuelle ibm workplace strategie nicht, und nur 21% der kunden wollen mitziehen.

obwohl ich davon nicht begeistert bin, scheint es mir leider nicht allzu unrealistisch zu sein – aber wir werden sehen, vielleicht werden wir ja positiv überrascht…

ibm hat mit os/2 ja schon eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass sie ihr handwerk produkte in den boden zu stampfen wirklich verstehen.

jetzt muss ich lesen, dass das lotus redbook center in cambridge demnächst schließen wird.

was kann man dazu noch sagen, ausser dass das wohl kaum eine besonders intelligente überlegung ist?!

einiges stimmt auf jeden fall, manches ist auf einfaches unwissen des anwenders zurückzuführen; aber andererseits: aus der sicht des endanwenders, der einfach nicht so den tiefen einblick hat, ist es eigentlich doch wieder nachvollziehbar… tja, aus endanwendersicht würde ich glaube ich mittlerweile auch outlook bevorzugen. aus administrator-sicht – vor allem in hinblick auf clustering, maximale größen der datenbanken und anzahl der anwender pro server – auf jeden fall domino.

aber das bild ist jedenfalls ganz witzig:

ps: in einem “google vergleich” schneidet notes auch nicht so gut ab; notes sucks mit 732.000 versus outlook sucks mit 235.000 results…

beta 3 steht zum download bereit – mit vielen neuen features….

Bei IBM gibt es Notes (nein, nicht domino – der server hatte den namen erst ab der version 4, nachdem ibm im juli 1995 lotus gekauft hatte) V1, V2 und V3 gratis zum download – also bereitet schon mal eure vm-sessions vor – ich hoffe ihr habt auch noch die 10 (?) disketten für windows 3.1?
