In accordance with the standard IBM Software Group release management process and our commitment to continuous improvement of our product line, IBM Lotus software is announcing that effective September 30, 2005, IBM Lotus Notes® and Domino™ 5.x will be retired from service.

September 2005	End of Service (EOS) for V5.x	End of phone Technical Support* and Maintenance Engineering (code fixes) for Domino and Notes V5.x.

This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# GMAA6EGH2H; however, there are no plans to address it in the 6.x codestream.

übersetzt heißt das also soviel wie:
danke, dass sie diesen fehler gemeldet haben. es ist uns aber gleichgültig, wir fixen das nicht, weil ja sonst 17 andere bugs wieder aktiv wären. installier eben wieder die alte version – was erwartest du auch? vielleicht fixen es wir ja in 7, aber das ist noch geheim und noch nicht fix.

meine lieblings – “solution” ist jedoch folgende (leider finde ich die technote nicht mehr):

domino7 bringt einiges an performance – daher soll es auch bald um ein viertel mehr kosten 😉

… ist: die preise zu erhöhen. und zwar nicht schlampig, nämlich um 25%.

… ab dem 06.10.2005 erhöht IBM die Preise für die Produkte IBM Lotus Domino Enterprise Server und IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Server um 25%. Dabei sind in allen Staffeln Neulizenzen, Renewals und Reinstatement gleichermaßen betroffen.

Ab 11.10.2005 werden ebenfalls die Preise für die Staffeln D bis J um 5% bis 10% erhöht, diese gilt ebenfalls für Neulizenzen, Renewals und Reinstatements. Die Preiserhöhung betrifft alle Softwarebrands (WebSphere, Rational, Lotus, Tivoli und DB2).

kein argument – höhere performance, erweiterte funktionalität etc von domino 7 – ist meiner meinung nach eine begründung dafür; strategisch richtig wäre eine reduktion um 25%. microsoft wird es freuen – anstatt die preise zu erhöhen bekommt man dort jetzt gratis eine migrationsunterstützung mit casahl; ein tool, mit dem relativ einfach die applikationsdatenbanken einer domino installation migriert werden können.
