es ist nicht überraschend, dass man gerne einen überblick haben möchte, wo es in der firma überall sharepoint installationen gibt – das problem habe ich ja bereits einmal kurz angesprochen, und microsoft selbst hat mit dem sharepoint asset inventory tool eine lösung parat, die allerdings noch beta ist und leider damit auch nicht gerade optimal funktioniert.

eben habe ich eine alternative gefunden: den Discovery Wizard for SharePoint von quest software – auch dieser widmet sich dem genannten problem:

Do you know how many Microsoft SharePoint servers, site collections or sites are on your network? Discovery Wizard for SharePoint freeware gathers critical data about your SharePoint inventory (SPS and WSS) and displays the discovered results in two easy to read, HTML reports.

… steht nun auf meiner todo liste; bin gespannt, ob dieses tool besser als das von ms funktioniert.

With my Webpart you can access files from e.g. your fileserver via SharePoint / Browser.

All you have to do is install the solution, activate and deploy it. When you drag the Webpart onto a SharePoint page, you configure the root path from which you want to share data, and your users are able to download the files through the Webpart.

All files and folders are security trimmed. Meaning you can only download files and see folders, which you would see on the directory itself.

kurz gesagt ist die performance bei objekten kleiner als 256kb in der datenbank besser, bei objekten größer als 1 mb auf dem filesystem. tatsächlich werden heutzutage dokumente eher größer als 1 mb sein; daher wäre ein externer document store auf jeden fall besser geeignet

geht das? out of the box nicht – man kann nur den feed blog für blog im feedreader seiner wahl abonieren, aber nicht alle auf einmal; und schon gar nicht kann man zu neuen blogs automatisch subscriben.

die lösung wäre also eine art “master feed” – ein feed, indem einfach automatisch alle feeds der vorhandenen blogs enthalten sind. somit ist also auch ein neues blog automatisch enthalten.

steven van de craen hat eine solution erstellt, die genau so einen “master feed” generiert – er bietet diese zum glück zum download an; sogar der source code steht zur verfügung.

auch eine feine sache – das access checker webpart. es gibt keine schnellere und bessere möglichkeit zu überprüfen, wo ein benutzer keine berechtigung hat. funktioniert allerdings nicht auf item-ebene.

… die SmartTools for SharePoint bringen neben einem “what’s new” – webpart vor allem ein geniales feature: per lookup auf eine liste werden die werte daraus per ajax bei der eingabe vorgeschlagen; imho ein feature, welches die usability drastisch erhöht

das codeplex projekt “CryptoCollaboration For SharePoint 2007” schaut bereits jetzt sehr vielversprechend aus; die homepage erklärt mit sehr vielen screenshots die funktionalitäten, sodass man leicht vorab abschätzen kann, ob die gebotenen funktionalitäten die eigenen anforderungen abdecken.

mithilfe dieser solution können text- und ms word 2007 dokumente sowie deren metadaten und listen auf anforderung und item-level ver- und entschlüsselt werden!

der source code des External Collaboration Toolkits for SharePoint steht nun als teil des community kits for sharepoint zur verfügung!

jedes weitere wort ist verschwendung – glaubt mir, der download lohnt sich!

endlich habe ich zeit gefunden, das sharepoint asset inventory tool zu testen…

es ist ja noch eine beta version, und leider funktioniert es auch momentan genauso: sobald man einen scan über mehr als eine handvoll hosts durchführen will, bricht der scan mit diversen fehlermeldungen ab:

danach kann man das tool nicht mehr erneut starten, da der “windows vista hardware assessment wizard” bereits läuft…

kein problem – also neu starten, und den scan einfach wiederaufnehmen? leider nein – aus den release notes:

Selecting “Resume scan” after an interrupted scan fails to resume the scan

After a scan has been canceled before it is complete, the actions of rerunning the wizard and selecting RESUME do not result in the scan actually resuming. The wizard simply pauses, closes, and displays a message saying that the scan was finished. The wizard appears to, but does not actually complete the scan.
